Privacy
Posture doesn't have accounts, advertising or cookies, and the app itself has no analytics. What it knows about you stays on your device.
The web app
- Your settings, break history and progress are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device. They're never sent to us.
- Reminders use your browser's notification permission. In Chrome and Edge they can also use the idle-detection permission, so time you're away from the computer doesn't count. Both stay on your device, and you can turn them off at any time.
- Spoken cues use your device's built-in voices.
- If your organisation gives you a Posture for Work licence key, it's saved with your settings and checked on your device.
The Mac app
- Your settings and history are saved in macOS's preferences, on your Mac.
- To avoid interrupting you, it reads how long it's been since you last used the keyboard or mouse, whether another app is using the camera or microphone, which app is in front, and whether something is fullscreen. It never turns on the camera or microphone, records nothing, and sends none of this anywhere.
- If you turn on "wait while a calendar event is on", it asks for calendar access and reads only when your events start and end and whether they're marked busy. That stays on your Mac.
- About once a day it checks this website for an update to its break screen. That's an ordinary web request, like opening a page.
The Windows app
- Your settings and history are saved in the app's data folder on your PC. The portable version keeps them in a "Posture data" folder next to the program.
- To avoid interrupting you, it asks Windows whether another app is using the camera or microphone, and which app is in front and whether it fills the screen. It never turns on the camera or microphone, records nothing, and sends none of this anywhere.
- Like the Mac app, it checks this website about once a day for an update to its break screen.
The guides Sam, Nina, Marcus and Mei
These four figures aren't built into the app. The first time you choose one, the app downloads it from this website (about 1.7 MB), like loading a picture.
This website
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes your IP address and standard request logs to deliver pages and keep the service secure (see Vercel's privacy policy).
The home page, and only the home page, uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. It sets no cookies and can't identify you: each visit records the page, the site you came from, your country, and your browser, operating system and device type, and Vercel tells repeat visits apart with a hash of the request that it discards after 24 hours. The app, the exercise guides and this page aren't counted.
Health information
The health check in Settings is only used on your device, to leave out exercises that may not suit you. It's never sent anywhere.
If you contact us or buy a licence
If you email us, we keep your message and address to answer you. If your organisation buys a Posture for Work licence, we keep the contact and billing details we need to issue it and invoice you. How we handle these, and for how long, is set out in our data processing statement.
